NEC MultiSync LCD 1850X

Summary

Model: NEC Multisync 1850X

Type: LCD colour display.

Size / Resolution: 18.1 inch viewable area, 1280 x 1024 resolution (1.3 Megapixels),

Applications: General digital image viewing, operating theatre image viewing, reviewing video recordings (endoscopy etc.), PACS workstation display

The monitor has a pleasing design, with very clean lines.  It is available in ivory or black, with a thin bezel for good quality stacking.  The base is sturdy, with a clever design to keep wires tidied away.  The usual control buttons for power, brightness and contrast run along the bottom of the bezel, with a minimalist look.  All in all, the best word to describe the appearance of this monitor is "professional".

Connection is via an analog VGA, or by a DVI connector (recommended).  The display can be adjusted for height, and can be rotated 90 degrees for portrait or landscape viewing.  This is easy to do, and very convenient for reading reports.

Image quality is excellent for grayscale images, and this was thoroughly tested with a full range of modalities, including CT, MRI and off course plain X Rays.  The screen is very bright, yet maintains good tonal variation and contrast.  This monitor excels when reading radiology reports, as it has a feature that sharpens text automatically, reducing eye strain when working through a stack of reports.  Colour rendition is also of a high quality.

This is an excellent display for use as a PACS workstation display.

Setup / Installation: N/A    This model was tested onsite, so setup was complete prior to testing.

Image Quality : Still             5/5  Excellent image quality, superb text rendition.

Overall rating: Highly Recommended.

This monitor was tested onsite at Neath Port Talbot Hospital, where it is used as a PACS workstation display in conjunction with the GE PACS system.
